see part 1 for the first bit of the story. (logic is good.)
anyway, i think it was the next day (or possibly the day after that... i'm old and forget things) that a short bus of all the people who got to attend the they might be giants recording sessions at pachyderm studios for the what were tracks on the 'severe tire damage' album. the recordings were in a studio, but still kind of live. (The album was mostly live, that's why i mention that).
we got a tour of the studios from some staff (nice people). nirvana, soul asylum, p.j. harvey, son volt, the jayhawks and others have recorded there, they have some historical bits. we also got to hear a few of the tamer stories about some of the related goings on by the bands.
The group of us were then brought into the viewing area for the recording. The band did a few songs, and then asked us to contribute some backing bits to some of the tracks. we're most noticeable on 'she's actual size' (we're the ones shouting 'no'). we didn't know how we sounded until the record came out, we didn't hear the playback.
however, i'm a bit bitter about this...
one of my goals in life is to be listed in the credits of an album.
I'm on an album.
am i in the credits?
no.
do we even get listed as a group thank you?
no.
and i would've accepted that as having reached the goal.
it's not likely that I'm ever to be in a recording session ever again, is it? i mean, though i have met more than the usual amount of famous people, and many of them musicians, it's not like it's more than a passing random thing. I'm not dropping by sessions all the time.
at one time i contemplated e-mailing the band or something along those lines, but i would think that not so many bands read that kind of thing, and I'm pretty sure their people wouldn't pass it on to them. could be wrong there, but... not so likely.
in the event that I'm wrong, the address is yo.zan.net {at} gmail {dot} com.
