i met the whole of the band semisonic in a meet and greet sort of way. back when their 'all about chemistry' album came out, a local company sponsored a deal where if you were one of the first people to get the album at one of their locations, you got a pass for two for a special soundcheck show, a chance to meet the band, and got to attend the show for free.
(quantities are limited, two cds per person, void where prohibited by law, and all that sort of thing).
as at the time i happened to work near one of their outlets, and i got permission to queue up and come into work a bit late, i thought... why not? i'm usually up extremely early.
so i got my two copies (one i got for someone else, in case you were wondering, and even if you weren't), and prepared to hit the meet and greet by taking a copy of a picture a friend of mine in radio had of herself and the band in another city and printing it off (after some photoshopping) on larger photo paper to have something different to sign (besides the cd booklet).
(random note- this was back in the day i was doing a web site for a radio show... half a lifetime ago, it seems, but that's another story and really has nothing to do with this section).
the day of the show came, and i got my picture ready... and went, only to find out that in the queue, you were supposed to just get the official band shot signed.
so i appealed to the band, who were kind of amused that i had the shot, and wondered how i knew the other person in the picture. so we chatted a while about that. (not long, obviously, because of the queue). and indeed they did sign it.
at some point, i've met three-fourths of trip shakespeare, too, for that matter. as i've met dan and matt wilson solo. but only one-third of the new standards. band math.
