there's only been once, in the many hundreds of shows i've seen, that i've waiting by the door to meet the artist.
it wasn't my choice, but sometimes you just go along with the people with the car keys. for some reason, i was never into this kind of thing, wanting to meet the band (or comedian, as the case may be). ironic, don't you think?
anywya, many many years ago (hey, maybe even decades at this point...) when paula poundstone was famous for more savory reasons, a friend and i got tickets to see her show at the original guthrie.
after the show, my friend was very keen to meet her then. i was ambivalent about it, but again, he had the car keys.
you know how most of the time in ads, movies, and even documentaries, you see tons of people waiting at the stage door for the famous folk to walk out? in this case, the crowd consisted of the two of us.
after what seemed like ages, but was less than half an hour, she came out. my friend was prepared, and has his camera with him so we do have pictures of the event, and a sharpie for autographs and everything. no, we weren't fawning and all, but we were polite about it.
she was very gracious about it, and posed for a few pictures. she even got the person she left with (her manager, i belive) to take a picture of the three of us, which was above and beyond.
