this was at one of those in-house, select audience radio station gigs, post-steven page, when they were introducing themselves as a 4 piece band (2010).
i got there a bit early, and got to hear some band members warm up, doing some songs that didn't make it in to the regular set. once more i was asked if i was with the band (or the radio station)... nope. it was kind of nice to hear the warm up though. i particularly liked kevin hearn's version of 'avalon.'
when the other people started, and they started taping, they did mostly their greatest hits plus a few new songs (which were a lot slower and softer by and large), they did a meet and greet with all the people there.
after queing up (no pictures, we were told, but they would sign headshots), i thanked them for adding to the smallish non-christmas winter holiday song canon as they signed mine. they didn't care, it was all pretty perfunctory. maybe because i was at the end of the list, who knows.
like some other rock stars, they're good in concert, less good in person. (that lesson i learned many many years ago.)
though i think we all kind of feel bad this wasn't more... i don't know... exciting or something.
